Well Educated - Malaysia today is an excellent centre of education. The 8th Malaysia Plan quotes a survey conducted by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) in May 2003, that of the 17,854 jobs created by MSC companies, 86% comprises of knowledge workers such as software developers, programmers and analysts. Vibrant ICT and Services Industry
The country is host to a vibrant ICT and outsourcing industry, presenting tremendous opportunities for participation. The Malaysian ICT market is forecasted to enjoy a compounded annual growth rate of over 10% from 2002 to 2007 (source: IDC). In the same vein, the services sector is thriving, with finance, products, logistics, energy and health sectors seeing dynamic growth.
Lower Cost and Ease of Doing Business
The cost of doing business in Malaysia, and Malaysia’s-MSC is very affordable. MSC-status companies are given a variety of incentives such as tax holidays, research grants and no restrictions on foreign ownership and employment of foreign knowledge workers. Multimedia equipment is duty-free imported and the MSC proposition provides the freedom to relocate people, capital and equipment. For ease of financing, customized incentives are available from Malaysia Debt Ventures (MDV). The country also offers one of the lowest rentals in grade A buildings compared to key cities in the Asia-Pacific region.
A recent United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) survey on Global Investment Prospects ranked Malaysia as the 7th top hotspot for global foreign direct investment (FDI). American investment bank JP Morgan Ltd also listed Malaysia as a hotspot for mergers and acquisitions in South-East Asia in 2004.
Affordable High Quality of Living
With open greens and wide living areas, residents enjoy the combined advantage of a high quality of life with low cost of living which is 25% lower than Singapore (Mercer HR Atlas 2004). In terms of quality of life, Malaysia ranks ahead of its Asian counterparts Thailand, Philippines, China, Indonesia and India (UNDP Human Development Report 2003). Advanced facilities, political stability and a low crime rate form the backdrop for a safe cosmopolitan lifestyle.
Innovative Government Incentives
With full government backing, the MSC offers an exceptional package of incentives. Telecommunications and utility services come with performance guarantees. Qualified MSC-status companies are entitled to apply for R&D grant programmes, including the MSC grant scheme. For ease and speed, the government agency Multimedia Development Corporate (MDC), a One Stop Agency is specially created to manage the MSC and expedite international applications to be located here.
